The discussion group (aka list) suggested that something as trivial as the radio station I was listening to could interfere with the relatively weak GPS signal. (My favorite station changed formats, and I picked up a new favorite about that time. Additionally I was far from home so listening to a local broadcast. I have not attempted to correlate frequency with loss of signal yet.) Eventually I moved from a windshield mount for the Garmin road GPS to a dashboard mount (for legal reasons) and I can locate a position between the radio and speakers that is 95% good. Otherwise, shut off the radio if I require GPS and the unit re-acquires the satellites in seconds. That said, I humbly suggest that it may not be the ship's location, but rather that ship's electronics and antenna arrays and/or your position on the ship.
