On a flight from Maine back to Pittsburgh some years back, my marine sextant caused a small stir. When asked "what that thing was" I told the security person that it was a navigational instrument, which satisfied the lady. Amazing the response one gets if, when asked you simply say it's a sextant, which is what it is.
