I can't speak for today. But in 1983 flying out of Washington National I was asked by a security person what was in my bag. I replied to her that it was a Sextant. What's that she said? I said, for looking at the Sun, Moon and stars. Her eyes were as wide as two saucers, when I was waved through.
I imagined then, and still to this day do, that her brain was locked on the the 'sex' part and she wanted nothing whatsoever to do with sextant.
