Re: Is Sextant a generic word?

A number of times, shooting the sun at the beach, people have asked me what sort of a camera I had or was using. Every now and then, someone recognizes a marine sextant being used, when they see one. One time, at the beach, Emerald Isle, NC, some guys asked if I was a ships officer, i.e. Navigator, to which I answered honestly that I was simply enjoying a hobby interest, one time, a couple of guys stopped by, one asked which sextant I was using. I use an Astra lllb, and so stated. He then mentioned that those were the one's used at Kings Point, which he had attended prior to entering the USMC.
