Sextant fun, Sunday noon, Stonington Point, CT
    From: Frank Reed
    Date: 2013 Aug 8, 16:56 -0700

This Sunday, August 11 at Stonington Point, a couple of miles east of Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, I will be "hosting" sextant practice, experimentation, and all-around sextant fun! We will be there from 12:15 to 1:30pm so of course we can do noon sights, and the Moon will also be in the sky for lunars (a slim crescent so rather tough but definitely possible). Here's hoping for good weather. I am teaching a private tutorial in intro celestial this weekend, so I guarantee that I will be there rain or shine.

Stonington Point has ample parking but it can be a little crowded on a Sunday afternoon. You could also park in the borough and walk down. Driving there, follow the signs from exit 91 off I-95 to the "Stonington Lighthouse Museum" and then continue a short distance further until you run out of land. We will meet on the the small lawn area with picnic tables. For those of you who prefer your directions in raw format, make your way to latitude 41.3279° N, longitude 71.9054° W.

I intend to schedule another event for August 24 or 25 either at Stonington or Beavertail. I should have details on that in the next few days.
