Just under two years ago I wrote [NavList 3546] on a suggestion by Alexandre Eremenko [NavList 3512] that I could get hold of a pentagon prism for my C. Plath from the still existing firm: > In the meanwhile I contacted C. Plath for the pentagon prism, I'll let you know what comes up. > I did send them a mail then, but never got any reply, and forgot all about it. Then last week I stumbled upon that sextant again, which was in the most horrible state ever since, completely green and white from oxidation (it had been well used for 30 years in the field and obviously more used than cleaned). So I decided to clean off all the oxidation, which took half a day, followed by another attempt to get that prism. Mail again seemed not to arrive, so I then contacted them by phone. "Yes, we still have those prisms" was the reply, but at 747,- not really a part one would just buy to complete an old instrument. Now I am thinking of getting myself a separate prism (if that can be obtained for less than that) and build myself the fitting that is needed to attach it to the sextant frame. For the latter I need an example and the proper dimensions of an original. So I was hoping that some of you would have such a prism in his collection and could give me the details needed to make a replacement. Any suggestions for places to get a pentagon prism at a reasonable price are very welcome as well (I found myself one firm: http://www.fleige-optik.de/produkte.php?lang=uk&id=11). The instrument is now on my website, still not a beauty as I decided only to clean and not yet to restore it: http://www.dehilster.info/instrumenten/sextantgeodetic2/index.html Nicols --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ NavList message boards: www.fer3.com/arc Or post by email to: NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
