Ah, just the rate of the chronometer. Thanks, Bruce, I can understand that. I'm just stuck back at the question of how "just" taking a sun sight, using an artificial horizon, without any precise knowledge of where one is, could accomplish that. Or much of anything else. I suppose it just means that something has been lost in the translation [sic] and that the author either dropped part of this thought, or the transcriber did. Perhaps he simply forgot to mention that they took other sights to determine their location, and then used the sun sight for obtaining rate.
