    I would stongly suggest avoid getting "modern" American Practical Navigators as they are skimpy on the celnav.

    Look for the Green covered ones, specifically 1984 which comes in 2 volumes. You should be able to find them via used book sources.

    These books have all of the tables and information to do most of the common sights.

    As far as this board is concerned, some of the topics can get a bit heady, especially for a beginner, but you will always find the answer to your questions, both on the mathmatic side, and the practical side. I dare say that this board is the gathering place for the most knowledgable people on the topic of celestial navigation in the world.
