I would say, as a land bound navigator, who shoots standing on the beach, such celestial bodies as happen to pass within view, that GK's comment, appearing above, sums the thing up quite nicely. One can get a more accurate fix from an inexpensive hand held GPS, simply accepting what that black box produces, most often it is right. It remains however, that there is an element of satisfaction that comes from "doing it yourself", even allowing for a degrading in the accuracy of one's fix that is lacking otherwise.
