The sextant images on my Flickr page get regular hits from Google images, also Yahoo.  It is especially the case of the C.Plath Navistar.  I am guessing there aren't many photos of that particular sextant.

Yes. I use Google's image search several times a day. Very useful, isn't it? It's much more like traditional library browsing than text-based search results. Sometimes a tiny image thumbnail can tell you a lot more about a page's content than several paragraphs of text.

And, just by the way, it's been around for a LONG time:
"Is there anything Google can't find? [...] Now the company has launched Google Image Search, a nifty new tool that lets you search for the pictures embedded in Web pages. Scouring more than 150 million images, Image Search (images.google.com) turns up some real gems."

Most search engines have some form of image search. Google is dominant, but you might also try bing.com.

In addition to image search, Google has a nice video search feature. Like image search, you'll find it linked right at the top left of the main google search page (however under some operating systems in some browsers, those links are hidden until you float your mouse over them --so if you don't see a prominent set of links that says "web images videos maps news" at the upper left when you go to google.com, move your mouse up there and they should appear). If you search for videos about sextants, unfortunately the most publicized are the terribly confused ones featuring Tom Cunliffe which were recently discussed here. But you never know what will turn up...
