    Gary:

Speaking of WFB Jr. on sailing,hHe wrote 4 books, as I recall. I've browsed through all of them, finding them interesting reading, and for whatever it might be worth, noted the following. While Buckley had sometimes been criticized as a writer who would never use a 3 syllable word, if a 4 syllable word were available or could be found, in his sailing books, he seemed to have taken to writing in relatively plain English.

As for navigation, it seems that he was certainly competent,if not more than that, he seemed to fancy H0) 249 over other tables, and when once asked why he still fooled around with old fashioned navigation, instead of electronics, he supposedly offered the following. He stated, I don't recall which, that he stuck to old fashioned navigation due to being something of an iconoclast or as a result of his being something of an anachronism, I believe it was the latter. In any event, his passing was a loss to all.

    Alan
