I agree Bill that it probably is not at the top of the range in quality. That was the answer I expected when I asked about the lack of a rising piece and collimation adjustment.
The 1912 inspection ticket says "divided on silver to 15 seconds" with errors everywhere to 0'0" (for "practical purposes" is understood I think). As usual the photos don't show the scale divisions or the vernier clearly enough.
I've read and reread George Huxtable's 28 Oct 2006 reasons for a vernier Sextant and I just want one. This is the first chance I've had to touch before buying so I'll know a lot more tomorrow afternoon and hopefully have a new toy.
