In my world the ridges on the finger tips (fingerprints) are mild abrasives on their own, complete with an oil lubricant. Asians shaped jade with bamboo, clearly softer than the jade, but an exercise in patience; unlike a belt sander, where one can make the problem they set out to remedy worse in seconds :-) Personally I would avoid (harsh) chemicals, and try a light finger rub with whiting or rotten stone (if you have a traditional woodworking friend). Or Tripoli or toothpaste.
