FYI, the United States Power Squadrons no longer requires students to acquire a Rude Star Finder for its classes.  It is still taught, but most instructors have gotten their hands on enough to loan to the students of a typical class.  (I think I have about a dozen, both 2102-D and 2102-C.)  Just like everything else, an computerized star finder is also taught.  When it comes to the exam, the Rude or the computer program are both acceptable.  I don't think anyone uses the Rude on exams.
