Coincidentally, and in a report dated 22 September 2009, the president of the Maldives has made a somewhat plaintive appeal to the current United Nations climate-change
summit about how his country, an extensive island archipelago south of the Indian subcontinent, is being threatened with
extinction by rising sea levels:

Just a reminder for anyone interested in sea levels, you can get all the data you want from a number of online sources, including here: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends_global.shtml. This is "ground truth" data from tide gauges around the world. Sea level IS rising, and it is rising at rates which have not changed significantly in well over a century.
