    Hi Stan,

FIRST, regarding the files and gmail and all that... The files (two because you attached twice) are ALREADY HOSTED at an FTP-equivalent location. That's one of the main points of having a web site for NavList.

Whaaa...?!? There's a web site for NavList?? :)

Yes, of course, there's a web site, and it's located at http://fer3.com/arc and each and every NavList message is found there including all attachments going back to the very earliest (see PS). All attachments are hosted for download there. And you can post and reply to messages there without ever worrying about your email software's little quirks. More than half of all NavList members interact with the community entirely through the message boards on the web site and do not see NavList emails at all (this is not a "list"). So if you want to download Stan's file, all you have to do is go here:
    http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Request-for-beta-testers-StanK-may-2013-g24005
and scroll down to the bottom of that message and click the "attached file" link. It's a "zip" so file you will have to save it your computer.

Stan, changing the operating system's principal interface font does not strike me as a realistic option. Of course, another solution would be to say that the software only runs on certain flavors of Windows. Unsurprisingly, it runs fine on Windows XP. I have some old Windows executables with similar problems. That's why we upgrade. It's no different on other platforms. Except via emulators, you can't run any Mac software from ten years ago (or compiled with ten-years-old tools) on a modern OSX Mac. Then again, who would be running your software? There's a pretty good chance that your target market would be technologically "slow" and you could count Win XP as a modern operating system. A not-insignificant number of NavList members have never upgraded from XP, and many never will. :)

For other development options, RealBasic (name about to change to "xojo" --pronounced "zoe joe") is an excellent choice. Switch your development to that platform, and you will be fine. I also develop in RB and have done so regularly for ten years. I would be happy to sit down with you sometime and get you up-to-speed in RB. You're apparently using VB6 which dates from 1998 and was officially dropped from Microsoft's supported development tools in 2005. It's toast.

PS: The very first binary attachment to NavList community messages was in 2002 (unless we're missing one). And it was, I believe, an early edition of this same software, Stan. Here it is: http://www.fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx?ii=005408. From your message back then: "I wrote it for USPS navigation classes, so it probably has more than you need. It is a DOS program. It also does solar phenomena to help you determine when you want to do the star finding. Operation should be self-explanatory. It was originally written for a Commodore 64."
