John Brenneise and I seem to have started a bit of a discussion between us
about refraction in the atmosphere. It's the sort of in-principle argument
that I rather enjoy (and I hope John does too), but may well drive others
    up the wall.

As it's got somewhat esoteric by now, I propose to take it off-list, to a
private discussion between the two of us, unless anyone objects. But if
anyone else happens to be following it or wishes to participate, please say
so on-list and I will reconsider.

    George.
