A friend said when he was growing up (he was born in '45) someone gave him a sextant-like navigation instrument that had a way of recording star shots.
I gathered from his description it was not the kind with the tiny balls that drop on frosted glass but rather it produced some kind of paper record. But I could be wrong.
Sadly it was misplaced when he left home and joined the Army in the '60s.
Can anyone help me (him) figure what it was? Google has been no help.
