Gary Lapook you wrote: Here are two images from the John Wayne movie, "Island in the Sky," showing the navigator using the recording octant based on the A-7.

Never mind the sextant Gary; how can I get hold of one of those cute Navigator hats? Or does proximity to radium based paint make your hat go that shape?

    Lepetit Recording Sextant

Below are photos of pages 127/127 and 128/129 of Arthur J Hughes "History of Air Navigation" showing a picture of the 'Modified' Lepetit aircraft sextant plus a written decription.  Its demise might have been something to do with its size, the fall of France, and the introduction of mechanical averaging by Everitt in the Huges RAF MkIXA.
