Different authors have different writing styles, and readers learning
styles. When I'm checking out a new book (cook book for example) I'll go
    to a recipe/proceedure I know well. If I cannot follow his/her
explanation or step-by-step for something I already know how to do, it's
    not the book for me.

Sometimes the ingredients and method are just plain poor. 1 TBS vinegar?
What kind of vinegar? White, apple cider, rice? Onions white or yellow?
Bake covered or uncovered? No excuse for that lack of detail IMHO.
