    As promised, here’s the first celnav problem taken from my father’s notes.

     

    On July 19, 1960 aboard the Lloyd Triestino M/V Livenza en route from Italy to the Far East in estimated position 27deg 21’ N 123deg 46’ E (Japan Sea) the following sights are taken:

    Vega                     10 51 47 GMT    Hs 43deg 19’,0

    Antares               10 54 49 GMT    Hs 32deg 20’,5

    Spica                     10 56 48 GMT    Hs 45deg 10’,2

    Dubhe                  10 58 55 GMT    Hs 37deg 55’,0

    I.E. = 0

    Elevation of eye 15,7 meters

    Course 40deg

    Speed 16 kts

    Required fix at 10 59 00 GMT
