1. Use of Alt Table . The use of this is really just one of preference, some like to do as much as possible by calculation and then transfer to the chart, while others like to put the raw data on the chart and then work from there. 2. Accuracy of Volume 1. provided you have the right epoch then Vol 1 is as accurate as is needed if taking sights at sea. At a guess the original 1947 edition would probably still be within the accuracy of practical sights. Quite frankly, when I was doing this sort of thing for a living, getting a cocked hat of less than five miles made me pretty pleased. However, although a grateful government gave me Vols 1-3 to use, my preference was for Hughes tables which was a sixth of the weight and volume to lug around. NG
