Bill, > > Without averager, error -1.6.a > > I don't see figures to support -1.6a. What is -1.6a? What was the sigma? error -1.6 means that I made only one observation, and the error of this observation was -1.6 The "a" after "-1.6." is a misprint. > > Without averager: errors -3.5, -2.7, -3.4, -4.1, 0.0, -2.8. > > Which would be average -2.75, sigma 1.4. Yes? Yes. > Have you attempted do place > Venus or a star on the top edge then bottom edge > of the bubble and manually average? No I did not. And for a good reason, which also answers the question recently asked by Jean-Philippe: My sextant bubble has a tendency to grow with time. (Sometimes it does sometimes it does not, probably this depends on the temperature and pressure conditions). I tried to release the bubble screw completely; this does not help. In general this is a minor nuisance but it prevents the type of observation Bill asks.
