Agreed. It is a classic piece of nautica.

I have two copies. One I keep at home and one on my boat, although to be honest, the one on my boat is more for recreational reading at night when things are shut down, the anchors are secure and I have not a care in the world save concerns over rum supplies.

if you need a copy (I have mine already):

THE RAFT BOOK aviator Harold Gatty WWII-era lifesaving boat navigation w/map

    271142316534 Item number:

The Raft Book. Lore of the Sea and Sky. Written by noted aviator Harold Gatty, this vintage book comes in its original slipcase with one big "coffee table-sized" map printed on both sides, one big "coffee table-sized" chart printed on both sides with Northern and Southern Latitudes and one "Greenwich Date and Hour Scales" ruler-like paper piece. Copyright 1943. No printing date stated but there is a 1943 on the title page. George Grady Press, publishers. SOFTCOVER (paperback), approx. 5-1/2" x 7-1/2", 152 pages. This is NOT a former library copy.

Please review the photos carefully. Cover has bumped, worn corners and a little edge wear. Page corners are bumped. There is a little separation between a couple of the pages but nothing is loose because of it. There is a name written on the title page and a light erasure mark on the inside front cover. Slipcase has edge and corner wear plus edge wear on the pasted-on illustration. Slipcase surfaces have some scuffing/scratching and soil. Label on the slipcase spine is discolored. Map and chart have edge and corner wear plus "not smooth" areas from handling (and the expected folds). There a small holes at the intersections of some of the folds plus a small bit of writing on the map and chart. Ruler-like piece has the expected folds, edge/corner wear and "not smooth" areas from handling. NO musty odors.
