The micrometer mechanism contains very precise , no backlash , under 90 degrees cogs , the very slightest pollution by dust , oil remains etcetera , immediately leads to a block , mostly for a part of the circumference only . Open case thoroughly , remove any stain from wheels by soft material (no screwdriver , knife or other) and solvent . As long as running the axis gives the impression that it is crooked , wheel is not clean enough . Disassembling (sharp screwdrivers , matching sizes) can be safely done , no calibration of mirrors etc. will get injured . Oil running surfaces very lightly before re-assembling , do not use grease , it will sharply obstruct easiness of running the scales . hva .
