John Huth wrote- "what I'm seeking to understand is how this might affect the steepness of the waves on one side - that is to say, they seem to be steep on the side facing the current, and not on the side away and I don't quite understand what causes that." Yes, if that's the case. Is John certain that it is the case, though? It's corresponds to my own experience that if a wave is going to spill over, it will spill on the downwind side. But at the point before that occurs, I can't say that I've noticed any great difference in the steepness of the wave on one side rather than another. I've been through many local overfalls in my sailing time, but only in conditions when they have been somewhat embarrassing: (sometimes considerably so...) I've always managed to avoid the dangerous conditions, happy to say. contact George Huxtable, at george@hux.me.uk or at +44 1865 820222 (from UK, 01865 820222) or at 1 Sandy Lane, Southmoor, Abingdon, Oxon OX13 5HX, UK. -- NavList message boards: www.fer3.com/arc Or post by email to: NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList+@fer3.com
