Purchasing a Russian Chronometer

I am toying with the idea and am looking at three possible sources at the
moment:
The Latvian guy who has a few for around 1,000 GBP but it is a bit of a
shot in the dark, no real knowledge of the condition and hardly any
comeback.
Mr Robinson in the Hamble has one for 1,250 GBP which he got from Germany,
rated himself and will give some warranty if it breaks down.
John Cronin who is a chronometer expert in Huntingdon, who gets them from
the Ukraine, overhauls and refurbishes them, rates them and sells them for
£1,590 with a 5 year warranty and after that service and spare parts available.
Interestingly, he just had someone coming in with one of these Russian
chronometers which he bought on-line with a promise that it works, but it
doesn’t. The overhaul will now cost him at least 250 GBP + spare parts if
required.
Any opinion or tales of good or bad experience would be
appreciated.
