    Provisioning
    From: Joe Kliment

On deliveries, I base the food provisioning on estimated trip time( # meals)
multiplied by the no. of crew. An additional 2-3 days is added on in the
event things slow down. No consideration is given to weight. The weight of
food is small compared to potable water and fuel. The variety of food is
determined by crew preference. Establish the crew's preferences before going
to the store. This makes for a happier crew since they have a part in the
decision making. Establish a formal list and use it at the food store.
Stick to the list! This prevents your problem of "too many bananas". Use up
your perishable food first (chicken, hamburgers) and get plenty of staple
items such as potatoes, carrots, onions and fruit for the whole trip. Stock
up on can goods for those bad weather days and to use as a carry-over if the
trip time increases. Yes, even Dinty Moore Stew prepared properly tastes good.
