shipping so it doesn't arrive damaged or destroyed (I've read the
horror stories on the list archives)."
Bubble wrap stuffed into open spaces in the sextant case --to keep things
from rattling around. The sextant case then wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap
about an inch thick. Then place the wrapped sextant case inside a larger,
sturdy cardboard shipping box with about three inches to spare in every
direction. Fill those spaces rather tightly with styrofoam shipping "peanuts". Seal up
with good shipping tape and you're done. Shipping should be trackable: UPS
or FedEx Ground or USPS with delivery confirmation.
I've bought and sold six sextants on ebay in the past year without incident.
