Three rotational oscillations and three translational oscillations. Worth noting, games platforms frequently brag about their six-degrees of freedom motion controllers. The iPhone 4 now has this since they added the gyroscope (previously rotations had to be deduced from the linear accelerometers aided by the magnetic compass).
