NOTE: This message has nothing to do with email functionality of NavList. Those of you participate in NavList entirely by email can safely ignore this message. A few days ago, I mentioned that there might be some some "brief periods of time" when the NavList message boards and archives at fer3.com/arc might be inaccessible. That referred to some code editing that I was doing, and it was over and done with in less than an hour --no actual outages. But as luck would have it, Friday night the servers where these accounts are hosted were subjected to a rather severe "denial of service" attack (this is where a server is inundated with a huge number of spurious requests for web pages and other data in a 'vandalous' manner, and it can no longer fulfill real requests for data). If you attempted to view any pages during this time, you may have discovered that the site simply did not respond (as I did). I wouldn't normally bring this up, but the unfortunate truth is that these things often come in waves so it might happen again in the next couple of days. The outage Friday night lasted about four hours, and that has been typical in other cases for these servers. For those of you with technical/computing interests, you can read about the most recent D.O.S. attack here: http://community.discountasp.net/forumdisplay.php?f=34 and if you are unable to connect to fer3.com/arc at some point later this week, you can at least satisfy your curiosity by checking the "status page" for the servers here: http://216.128.30.225/index.html Write it down! ;-) -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ NavList message boards: www.fer3.com/arc Or post by email to: NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
