    Hello Shawn,

A bit more time to refine "your" position other than hastily eye-balling your planetarium picture as I did yesterday night. This morning I used my school ruler to better figure out actual body heights.

As earlier, I went with brute force LOP's on Polaris (h=35d43'), Capella (h=68d57'), Castor (h=42d14'), Pollux (h=38d35'), Procyon (h=28d05'), Betelgeuse (h=48d58'), Sirius (h=22d40'), Aldebaran (h=67d58') and Rigel (h=41d42'). Did not want to use Jupiter next to Aldebaran because too "splashy". However, I will refer again to Jupiter in a different manner further down.

Given the "improved" tool I have used (my school ruler), refined position has now become : N34d59'3 E135d48'3 with LOP's Standard deviation of 4.8 NM. Further position refinement would involve accurate height determination on a scale which is not linear and would also assume for the Stars apparent coordinates to be displayed to better than 1'.

As a result of this dramatic improvement, refined position has now come to a little less than 5 NM away from your published position, which by the way is ...

    ... definitely a superb place for Romance : Congratulations ! :-)

Thanks for this "numbers crunching" opportunity, and

    Best Friendly Regards

    Kermit

PS: As regards the height determinations here-above, if - and only if - I am to make the assumption that there is a constant height bias throughout in the way I am determining heights, then this bias is 1'74 , yielding a "new" LOP dispersion of 4.0 NM with a "shifted no bias position" at N35d00'9 E135d47'4 , now only 3.3 NM away from your published position.

In order to timely escape from any curse from Jupiter, I will confess this is pure luck here ! :-)

"Position close from N34d50' E135d50' , probably to within 40 NM.

    Kyoto area ??" -Antoine

Actually, you are only 13.3 nm off! The actual location was the viewing area of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, Japan. 35° 02' 20.18" N 135° 43' 43.49" E. That is where I got engaged! :) Dave got pretty close, too. I'm impressed.
