The default datum in your GPS is WGS 84 which is almost identical to NAD 83 which has diferences in the 100 meter range from NAD 27 which is the datum on many topo maps. I believe (but am not sure) that Google Earth uses WGS 84. But none of these should affect the calculation of celestial coordinates so I wonder if the problem isn't in the nav program you are using or in the way you are using it. What program is it?

Well, that makes sense. I toyed around with the corrections as suggested by another poster but didn't get any reasonable results. I am hoping that with time and experience that I will get proficient enough to make this work out in the open ocean.

Thanks to all who tossed in their 2 cents worth. It really helped.
