    Poly Nesia: So Many Islands...

    Polynesia is Greek for "many islands". I spent two hours today exploring those many islands and others around the world (the Maldives are fun). Apparently, there's a long-running project to collect cloud-free satellite imagery of all the world's reefs, which includes most of the little islands in the world's tropics. The early results are currently accessible on the web. It's fun tracking down some of those famous places out in the middle of the Pacific and then spying on them from orbit. The close-up images show every little atoll at 30 meter resolution.
