You are right. This new scale needs new base plate, too. I have not done it yet. But dividing / multiplying by 2 is not too hard, I think.
In fact there is another thing that can be easily made - if one scale this i.e. 2x and make switchable base plate then it can be used as a navigationat table. Like the reverse side of Polhemus computer alone. This 1:2'500'000 scale should be better for drawing LOP. Maybe even 1:1'250'000 (+/-1° of latitude).
