    Re: Plath kriegsmarine sextant servicing

From the photos I surmise that you have removed all the screws. Now it
remains to remove the telescope. This will allow the index arm to swing
past the index and away from sextant body. Also remove the washer that
remains on the index arm. This lifts (or pries - careful!) straight
off. Then, with a soft object such as a small diameter dowel, tap the pivot
from which you have already removed the one screw and covering washer . It
is a tapered affair and the leads of the screw hole are easily damaged. Use
extreme care or you will have a devil of a time getting it back together.
When it is loose, gently lift the arm away from the body.

Of course make sure that the body is supported and that the index arm will
not fall out and distort the pivot when it comes loose. You should note
that extreme care must be used to avoid leaving tool marks. Many of the
components are of a soft metal.

I rebuilt a Plath not so long ago and this was my experience.
