Re: A Plath Sextant listed for sale with an odd eye piece

Paul, many thanks for sharing that information,

Sounds like it might really have been an interesting find. Unfortunately I took just a bit too long to write in my offer and it was gone. Well, next time !!

I see that that same on-line trader also had (and now sold) what looked like a very nice, new-looking Freiberger Sextant, That brought back memories as it was the same model of my first sextant in the early ‘80s which I used to sail from Tofino, Vancouver Island to La Paz, Mexico.

I recall we ordered that sextant from the DDR and were so excited when it arrived.

Glen, That plath with the SOLD AH is quite special. But speaking from experience working with older sextants, I expect you will find your Tamayas to be much more practical in terms of taking actual sights. Besides, unless the Plath includes a telescope not shown in the photos, you will have to use one of the Tamaya telescopes if you want to use it without the AH.

So my advice is to not part with any of your Tamayas until after you get the Plath and play with it a bit.

Oh, and from the pics, the AH looks like it is missing the eye cup, which is kind of a hassle. But I'll bet Bill Morris might have a suggestion if you happen to get it.
