Folks, please consider this Π thread CLOSED. The initial question was amusing math trivia and an appropriate tribute to "pi day" (though I have to agree with Herbert Prinz that the original statement of the puzzle was incomprehensible and the claim that we need higher math to understand it is mere pedantry). And John was just being "funny" by saying that it had something to do with being a "spherical navigator". Of course, it has no connection with navigation or usefulness to navigation in any way. It's off-topic.
