Just looked up the specs of the camera used, a Nikon D70. Its sensor matrix
    is advertised as 3008 x 2000 pixels.

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III has an impressive 21.2 megapixels, with a 5616 x
    3744 pixel sensor.

The above are 35mm-style single-lens reflexes. You did say "highest-quality
digital camera" but one is not likely to find anything larger than the above
on a sport boat unless in the hands of a professional. Once you get into the
larger (old 6 cm x 6cm) hand-held body style (like Hasselblad) the pixel
numbers go up. For view cameras (like Sinar Bron) the pixel count jumps
    again.

    Bill B.
