Dear Jared, Of course I have on-line Bowdich. And I read it carefully. As well as the books whose list I attach:-) My only request is that someone who has a sextant with large mirrors (56x42) just actually PEFRORM this test on his or her desc, and tell me what s/he sees. Chauvenet "A manual of spherical and practical..." vol. 2 4. Bruce Bauer, Sextant handbook. 5. A.J. Hughes, The book of the sextant 6. Dunlap and Shufeldt The book of the sextant 7. "My modern sextant" by Heath and Co. 8. SNO-T manual in Russian and English. 9. "The complete on board..." 10. The Russian book I read in my youth:-) I am waiting the promised posting on this list of the corresponding paragraph of Tamaya manual. But I will really appreciate if someone pulls his or her sextant out and actually performs this simple test. Alex.
