    This is very interesting. Now we can get to the bottom of how this 0-180
    gadget works.
    
    The manual succinctly explains the instrument can be used with daylight
    or light from a glowbulb. This may result in color fringing along the
    line to be measured. The 'compensator' can be turned to reduce the
    fringing and get a sharp line (page 5, 'Messung').
    
    Attached is an image of the inside of the instrument (from a current
    eBay auction). You can see the gears to turn the compensator on the
