The 'Navigator's Newsletter', issue 76, summer 2002, described the operation of the Astronomisches Rechengerat ARG1, a device developed for the German Luftwaffe in WWII, for the graphical solution of the navigational triangle. At first glance, this device seems similar to the Favé diagram as both are based on a stereographic projection of the earths surface. It would appear that the Favé device needed supporting tables, but the ARG1 did not. The Newsletter gives a detailed description of how the ARG1 works.
