    I agree,

I have read all his books several times. He is the modern male equivalent of Jane Austen of the Georgian period. Infinitely better than CS Forester et al from a literature perspective. He also  really knows his Darwin and Cel Nav. And all things philosophical and scientific for the age.  Writes beautifully. He of course is Darwin /Maturin, and he injects some really razor sharp comments about Anglo Irish relationships, relevant even now. ( I am in mourning about the Brexit result. May emigrate to Ireland, I have dual nationality))

Other books discuss Aubrey’s homemade telescopes, grinding his own lenses courtesy advice from Herschel’s sister. He published papers for the Royal Society and was no fool.

He also was still trying out his own version of the Urwin chair for doing Jupiter moons longitudes on board! ( I still have some ideas there, watch this space)

I recommend all Navlist members read all his books. Wonderful stuff.

Francis (depressed re Brexiit). Please cheer me up you Yanks!
