The Next Royal Institute of Navigation free webinar will be held this coming Tuesday 19th January at 19.00UTC. This joint webinar by the RIN Small Craft Group and The Little Ship Club is titled ‘The Past, Present and Future of Nautical Information for Leisure Sailors’.
The speaker is Lucy Wilson, Managing Director of Imray.
Lucy will give a whistle-stop tour of the past, present and future of nautical publishing, focusing on Imray’s recent digital developments. Imray has been publishing nautical information since the mid-1700s, when a handful of cartographers, pilot book writers and instrument makers served merchant ships’ captains in the hubbub of the London Docklands. Leap forward nearly 250 years, and the company today uses the latest digital systems and data to produce charts, books and apps tailored to the needs of the leisure sailor.
After the speaker’s talk there will be the opportunity to ask questions online.
About the Speaker
Lucy is part of the eighth generation of the Wilson family to work for the company. Although she spent many school holidays folding charts, she officially joined Imray after a career in the arts and publishing in London. She steers the production and development of their 250 or so charts, 100 pilot books and its range of digital products, working with hydrographic offices, sailing authors, customers, cartographers, editors and software developers. It’s a time of change, not only for Imray but also within the wider marine industry as sailing habits are changing and technology is opening up huge opportunities.
There is no charge for attending the webinar however prior registration is required. Registration is now open. Please follow this link: https://rin.org.uk/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1466043&group= and press the registration button. DaveP
