    Re: The Orion North Arrow

We need more Arrows distributed in right ascension, since Orion is not always available.  Here are a few candidates (of varying quality)---I may send diagrams later:

    - starting from a bit south of Regulus, point north along the axis of the "reverse question mark"  (10h)

    - use the Markab to Scheat line in the Great Square of Andromeda.  Start from a point south of Markab so that Markab is the midpoint (23h)

    - start from eta Aquilae, go north through Altair.  The starting star is a bit faint, but it should be a reasonably good asterism with Altair and surroundings (20h)

    - start from a little south of the Spica-Arcturus midpoint.  The direction is unfortunately a good 20 degrees clockwise from the Spica-Arcturus line (14h)

    - for reference, the Mintaka arrow (5.5h)

That's pretty reasonable spacing around the celestial equator.

    Cheers,
    Peter
