    I know this may not have been true for Thompson et al but the Australian,
    Gregory always measured the altitudes when doing lunars, as shown in the
    paper at ld-DEADLINK-com referred to on this list recently. Not sure why
    he did, (he was later then Thompson) although he achieved extremely accurate
    results.
