Re sextant oil, I have an Astra 111B, which has not "been to sea", nor is it likely to ever so travel.
That being said, I've lubed mine with a good grade of gun oil, not heavy grease. I moved the index arm all the way to one side of the rack, put a bit of gun oil on the worm, and turned the micrometer so that the arm traversed across the rack. Is I recall, I put a little of this oil on a finger tip, and ran my oily finger across the rack's teeth. Also put a bit of oil on a cotton swab, and ran it down the rack’s groove.
Everything seems fine with my Astra. I believe that the old adage applies here, "a little oil goes a long way".
