    Nories sight reduction tables?
    From: Dan M
Date: 2014 Mar 12, 05:19 -0700I'm presently teaching a celestial class. One of the UK students asked about Nories tables. I'm at a loss as to what these are, other than it seems to be tables like 229 for sight reduction. Does anyone know of these tables and perhaps where a PDF of them could be obtained?

While browsing the archives I found this thread from 2014. There were ten replies and I do not think that any answered the "sight reduction tables" question. In 1924 Norie contained a short method known as the A-K tables. The tables were based on Ogura and used with permission. By 1963 the tables had been extended to give azimuth and were renamed the Altitude-Azimuth table.  The tables were in the 1970 edition but seem to be missing from the 1983 edition.

I also came across a lengthy thread on Sight Reduction Methods.  I only read two or three posts so do not know if the A-K tables were mentioned.  In a post on this thread Frank wrote

"Collecting sight reduction methods can turn into a form of "stamp collecting". You only need one, but the process of collecting them can get addictive. Beware the curse of sight reductio ad absurdam!! Ha ha. :)"

I am not a stamp collector but..............
