Hi Gary,
For a practical demonstration of this solution, you might be interested in my post of 24 Jul 2005, under ID No. 24930, where it is detailed along with a number of Noon Sights observed on the sea horizon.
The purists used to say that accuracy would be affected by resetting the sextant between sights, however, there is no point in discussing that now. I have otherwise found the procedure to be entirely within the realm of practical navigation.
