The method described in Ocean Navigator is the one in
Bowditch current edition.
I am agree with Jim Wilson and his paper “Position
from Observations of a Single Body”, a simulation may be found in [NavList
5252] Re: Exercise #5 Lat/Long near Noon. I have calculated the L at LAN using
Jim’s method in the attached excel spreadsheet.
Also I try this method aboard a sailboat and the results are
acceptable due to the waves and roll and pitch
